Panerai Luminor 1950 Submersible Depth Gauge (PAM193)

Panerai introduced its first dive watches in 1936 for use by special commando units of the Italian Navy. These watches featured an unusual mechanism for sealing the crown, using a "protecting device." The original Panerai dive watches are highly valued by collectors and are very scarce. In 1997, these famous dive watches were reintroduced by the Vendome Luxury Group and quickly become very popular. This Panerai Luminor 1950 Submersible Depth Gauge Limited Edition (PAM193) is really a monster; it is in a 47mm x 23mm satin finished titanium and SS case with unidirectional rotating bezel, water resistant to 120 meters. The black dial has brightly fluorescent baton markers, Arabic numerals at six and twelve, and subsidiary seconds at nine. This watch features an electronic depth gauge that measures a divers' depth every 1.25 seconds and adjusts the scale on the inner bezel accordingly. The depth gauge feature is unique to this model of Panerai and is rarely seen paired with a mechanical movement. The watch is on a signed black Kevlar dive strap with divers' deployant clasp, showing evidence of rare previous use. This watch is in near mint condition, with no significant scratches on the case or sapphire crystal, only minor hair lines on the bezel, and very minor scuffs on the crown guard, next to the pusher at ten, and on the lug at eleven. The Panerai cal OP XV (base cal Valjoux 7750-P1) 21 jewel COSC certified automatic movement keeps accurate time within a tolerance of two seconds per day. This watch has an I serial number (2006 production) and is one of only 600 distributed worldwide. This oversize Panerai dive watch, originally sold by an authorized dealer in October of 2009, is offered in its original wood presentation box set and is accompanied by a signed rubber dive strap with tang type buckle, strap changing tool, and all original papers, including the chronometer certificate. It has a list price of $16,900.
